Dr. Ghanshyam Patel is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and by the American College of Cardiology. He specializes in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. Dr. Patel and his staff offer patients highly comprehensive, state of the art care designed to provide further diagnosis and management of acute and chronic conditions such as hypertension, cholesterol, chest pain, coronary artery disease, cardiac arrhythmias, congestive heart failure and peripheral vascular disease. His credentials include board certifications in Nuclear Cardiology by the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC), Echocardiography by the National Board for Echocardiography (NBE) and as a registered physician for Vascular Interpretation (RPVI).
Dr. Patel was born in Uganda, East Africa where he did his primary and secondary schooling. He moved to England when he was 15 and completed his high school in London. He did his pre-medical course from Southgate Technical College in London. He went to medical school at the University of Manchester, Manchester and became a doctor in 1978. He interned at Bury General Hospital in Bury, England and then trained at Whittington, Royal Free and North Middlesex Hospitals in London. He is certified as a general practitioner in the United Kingdom. For further training, he came to USA in 1981 and did a 3-year internal medicine residency at Cook County Hospital, Chicago. He completed his cardiology fellowship at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. He worked in private practice for a year in Indiana before moving to Gadsden, Alabama in July 1987.
Dr. Patel has been serving Gadsden and Northeast Alabama for more than 33 years. He treats patients at both hospitals in Gadsden – Riverview Regional Medical Center and Gadsden Regional Medical Center. Dr. Patel is always thoughtful in his recommendations, does what is best for the patient and performs heart and vascular catheterizations, angioplasties, stenting, pacemakers and defibrillators. However, he would not recommend invasive cardiac procedures when he feels that the procedure is not necessary. Dr. Patel is a member of the American Medical Association, Alabama Medical Association, American College of Cardiology, Etowah County Medical Society, Physicians Who Care, American Society of Nuclear Cardiology, American Society of Echocardiography, American Society for Vascular Ultrasound and North American Foundation of University of Manchester (NAFUM). He and his wife, Nanda, are active members of the Gadsden/Etowah community where they support organizations like United Way, Community Foundation of Northeast Alabama, Gadsden State Cardinal Foundation, Center for Cultural Arts and Gadsden Museum of Arts. Internationally, they support organizations like Doctors without Borders.
